L TIMESTUDIO and VELOCI Time, two strong players in the Philippine watch industry, are joining forces and partnering with Marriott Hotel Manila to support our local heroes who will be competing at the 28th Southeast Asian Games. L TIMESTUDIO is the forerunner of a retail watch concept for fashion and sport timepieces while VELOCI Time, a homegrown watch brand boasting of stylish design, superior quality, and affordability, is likewise making a mark of its own in the Philippine watch industry.
In an apparent effort to regain the glorious era of Philippine
athletics, the timing of the changing of the guards in PATAFA (Philippine Athletics Track And Field Association) couldn’t
have been more impeccable. With Dr.
Philip Ella Juico’s ascendancy to the post as the new Philippine athletics
chief, members of Team Pilipinas athletics are all fired up to accomplish a
spectacular performance in the upcoming 2015 SEA Games.
If the remarkable athletic achievements of the Philippine athletics
team in recent international competitions are an indicator, Team Pilipinas Athletics stands to
collect eight (8) gold medals in the upcoming biennial meet in Singapore.
Banking on the solid and still improving best performances from the 36-strong
athletics team, this scenario will be an easy feat. And with a few turns of
good luck, a 12 gold medal haul possibility may not even be remote. The best
finish of the Philippines in the SEAG was in 1983, also in Singapore, where it garnered
11 gold-12 silver-9 bronze medals.
Among the disciplines where the Philippines could strike gold are
(men) hammer throw, 400m, 400m hurdles, 3000m steeplechase, 4x400m relay,
decathlon, long jump, 800m, and pole vault.
Considered as swing events, where a bronze medal is at least a high
possibility, are (men) marathon, 1500m, 4x100m, 110m hurdles, discus throw,
shot put; (women) long jump, 10,000m, and heptathlon.
The 2015 SEA Games will officially kick off on June 5. Two days after,
the mettle of Team Pilipinas athletics will start to be tested. But as they
have proven already, nothing is impossible with dedication, focus and tangible
support. They have surpassed all challenges and obstacles before. The strong
desire to bring honor to the country had carried them through. And this time
around, the Philippine athletics team’s morale is at an all time high. The odds are in our favor and our time is
now.

PRINCESS JOY NOLIDO GRIFFEY

His shining
moment came during the 27th SEA Games in 2013 in Nay Pyi Taw,
Myanmar when he won the Gold in the 400m Dash with a record of 47.22 sec. He was also a member of the 4 x 400m Relay
Gold Medal winner at the same meet.

“DAGS” as he
is fondly called, Henry Dagmil hails from South Cotabato. He was born on December 7, 1981 and is
married to Jennifer Rodulfo. Dags
started his career as an athlete when he joined the Palarong Pambansa on April
21, 1998 in his favorite event the Long Jump with a leap of 6.86m. He enrolled
in Mapua Institute of Technology and was coached by Joseph Sy who recruited him
to the National Team in 2002. From then
on he has improved a lot and ultimately broke the Philippine Record with a jump
of 7.99m which he accomplished in June 7, 2008 in Jim Bush Southern California
Meet in the USA.

When he was recruited to enroll at the Far Eastern
University, he was coached by Mr. Rosito
Andaya, who gave him a very strict training program which resulted in his very
good performances in several events because of the strict discipline that his
coach imposed on him. Upon graduation this
son of a principal was taken for the National Team by Coach Sean Guevara who
guided him to his stellar performance in Decathlon in the 27th SEA
Games in Myanmar. Mr. Cid is preparing
again for his favorite event of Decathlon for the 28th SEA Games in
Singapore on June 2015.
MARESTELLA “MARIZ” RENIDO TORRES

It was a big honor for her that she was one of the
two athletes from PATAFA who qualified to represent the Philippines in the
London Olympics. After the Olympics, she
took a leave of absence to get married. Motherhood sidelined her for quite sometimes
and skipped the 2013 27th SEA Games in Myanmar. During the 2015 Taipei Open she regained her
old self and took the gold medal with a jump of 6.53 meters. She is now focused
on her training to get back on top in her favorite event of Long Jump in the 28th
SEA Games in Singapore this coming June 2015.
ARNIEL BENEDICTO FERRERA

At the age of 33 Arniel is not yet done. He wants to get back on top. He is now focused on his training under the
tutelage of his coach, Agustin Jarina, preparing for the 28th
edition of SEA Games in Singapore.
EDGARDO GERONGA ALEJAN, JR.

Edgardo Alejan, Jr. has a personal best of 46.95 sec. in the 400 meter
dash which he established in Thailand Open on September 5, 2013. He is a member of the 4 x 400m Relay team
composed of Archand Christian Bagsit, Julius Nierras, Junrey Bano and himself,
that won the Gold Medal in the 26th SEA Games in Palembang,
Indonesia because of the disqualification of Malaysia due to doping
scandal. The team repeated the same feat
in the same event during the next staging of the SEA Games in Myanmar. However,
Junrey Bano was dropped from the team and replaced by Isidro Del Predo, Jr. Junrey
was entered in the 400m Hurdles.

Edgardo started his athletic career in Mapua Institute of Technology
and won several honors during his stint in the NCAA Meet. He was recruited to the National Team by then
Coach Joseph Sy. Like the rest of the Philippine National Team, this Ilonggo
guy born in Barangay Naslo, Pototan, Iloilo, is now very busy training in Baguio City under their coach
Lerma Bulauitan.
CHRISTOPHER TALIBONG ULBOC, JR.

Christopher Ulboc, Jr became an instant hit during the 27th
SEA Games in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar when he won the gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase with a record of 9:01.59 beating his
compatriot Rene Herrera the former title holder who ruled the event since the
2003 Vietnam SEA Games. However, he was
bombed out of medal position during the Incheon Asian Games in Korea in the
same event due to judgmental error in pacing.
From that competition he learned his lesson not to lead the pack of
world class runners. He is eyeing the Gold at the Singapore Sea Games this
coming June 2015.

KAYLA
ANISE MAICO RICHARDSON

KYLA ASHLEY MAICO RICHARDSON

Kyla was born on the same date as her twin sister Kayla on April 17,
1998. Both the twin sisters are products of Academy of Speed Training from 2011
– 2013 at Rancho Cucamonga in California USA. She was considered the fastest
fourteen year old Filipina of all time having clocked 12.00 sec. as a fourteen
year old sprinter. On both the senior
and junior ranking lists she is the youngest name on those lists behind some
prestigious names like FilAm Princess Joy Griffey holding the Jr. Record in
11.75 and Lydia de Vega the national record holder (11.76 as a Junior). However, not even Lydia nor Griffey were able
to accomplish a 12.00 sec. as a 14 year-old sprinter, each having more rapid
improvements at the age of 16 – 18.
Kyla, if she continues the way she has been and continues to train as
well as her sister Kayla, will have a very strong chance of sending ripples
through Philippine sports
ERNEST JOHN “EJ” UY OBIENA

Kong Intercity Athletics Championships and becoming a five time gold medalist

is a Philippine Navy seaman, 2nd class and has competed in Southeast Asian, Asian
and Olympic Games. Rene has not

is now focused in his training in preparation for the SEA Games in Singapore.
MERVIN MALIGO GUARTE

At present he is busy training in ULTRA Pasig City in preparation
for the Singapore SEA Games this coming June 2015.
MARY JOY REYES TABAL

Ms. Tabal
outran her fierce rival and now dethroned former back to back (2011-2012)
women’s champion Mary Grace Delos Santos. None of them would admit it, but the
two Mary’s are fierce rivals, pitted against each other by their respective
fans, each claiming to be the rightful queen of the road racing circuit.
Rivals or
not, there can only be one queen. The Milo crown settles it. The reigning road
running queen is, without a doubt, Mary Joy Tabal. That is, until the crown
gets snatched once again and a new queen gets crowned.
NARCISA MATALOG ATIENZA

Ms. Atienza is in the thick of her training in preparation for the
Singapore SEA Games this coming June 2015
