Disaster Preparedness

Press Release:
Preparedness Is Key with R.O.X.
R.O.X. holds disaster preparedness talk in its Fort branch

In light of the recent torrential rains which heavily hit Metro Manila and nearby provinces, Recreational Outdoor Exchange (R.O.X.), Asia’s largest outdoor superstore, held a Disaster Preparedness Talk last August 30, 2012 at its flagship store in Bonifacio High Street. R.O.X. brought onboard Coach Manny Batungbacal, MHW – CORE Search and Rescue leader, and Louie Domingo, Emergency First Response Instructor Trainer, as resource persons.

Aside from preparing for typhoons and floods, the lecture also included scenarios for other commonly occurring natural and man-made disasters namely earthquake and fires.

There may seem like a lot of things to remember when faced with any of these situations, but what the lecturers couldn’t emphasize enough on is how preparedness is key to anything. Everyone must always pay attention to the first official warning given by the local government and different government agencies.

It was also stressed in the talk that everyone must always have their own Survival Kit in their own home that would last for 3 Days.

With that, R.O.X. has launched its own Survival Kit, which has long been advocating the idea of personal survival. Included in this kit are: Coghlans emergency blanket, Coghlans whistle, Princeton Tec headlamp , Coghlans water purifier, Coghlans first aid kit, Coghlans candles, Coghlans spoon, fork and knife set, Stinger energy gels, multipurpose tool, Nalgene water bottle,  lighter, duct tape, and a water proof bag.

The R.O.X. Survival Talk also discussed basic family survival. Coach Manny and Louie also reminded everyone to always make sure that there are no hazards inside and near your home. There may not be a foolproof way to avoid these dangers, but it’s best to ensure it could not get worse by things you can address beforehand. In being prepared, you’re keeping your home and yourself safe.

All these actions Coach Manny and Louie prescribed all require sound judgment from the talk’s participants. After all, each person can really only be responsible for his or her own safety.
